Part 3: The Restaurant Mix-Up (Tom’s First Day in America)
Tom finally gets to his hotel.
He is very, very hungry.
“Food! I need food!” says Tom.
He walks to a restaurant.
A waiter smiles. “Hello! Welcome!”
“Hello!” says Tom. “I want chicken, please.”
The waiter gives him a menu.
Tom does not read it.
He sees a picture of a chicken.
He points at the picture.
“Yes! This! Chicken!” says Tom.
The waiter nods and writes.
After a few minutes, the waiter comes back.
He puts something on the table.
It is… a toy chicken!
Tom looks. Tom blinks.
Tom laughs. “This is not food! This is a toy!”
The waiter looks at the picture on the menu.
“Ohhh!” he says. “Sorry! That is the kids’ menu!”
They both laugh.
Tom points again, this time at the real food.
The waiter brings a hot plate of chicken.
“Yum!” says Tom.
He eats and smiles.
“America is funny,” Tom says.
