Part 5: The Hotel Surprise (Tom’s First Day in America)

Listen - Audio

At last, Tom goes back to his hotel.
He is very tired.
He carries his bag.
The dog still follows him.

Tom walks to the front desk.
“Hello! I have a room,” he says.
The receptionist smiles. “Welcome! Your key, please.”

Tom gives the paper.
The receptionist looks.
“Room 404,” she says.

Tom takes the elevator.
He pushes the button.
Ding! The door opens.

He walks into his room.
The dog runs in too.
“Oh no!” says Tom. “Not again!”

Tom looks around.
There is a big bed.
There is a big TV.
But… there is no window.

“This is strange,” says Tom.
The dog barks. “Woof!”
Tom laughs. “Yes, very strange.”

He picks up the hotel phone.
“Hello? This is Tom.
My room is nice… but where is the window?”

The receptionist laughs.
“Oh! That is the funny room. No window. Special price!”

Tom shakes his head.
He lies down on the bed.
The dog jumps up too.

“Okay, fine,” says Tom.
“No window, but I have you, dog.”
The dog licks his face.
Tom smiles. “America is very funny.”
